Blue Dress

I recently finished a late period Italian dress for my SCA work. Done entirely by hand, the fashion fabric is a tropical weight royal blue wool, with a linen canvas interlining and stiffening layer in the bodice, and then lined in light weight blue linen also in the bodice only. I did the eyelets all by hand using blue silk twist, and made the lacing cord using lucet technique with cotton crochet thread in pale yellow. I also used stab stitching around all openings and cartridge pleated and attached the skirt by hand. I used 1/2 a yard of lining and canvas, and 4 yards of wool for this dress.

The chemise is still under construction but will be a large sleeved smocked gown with copper embroidery details, the topic of a future post. Pictures here are shown with my regular close sleeve chemise, and were taken at the Kings College event in Ansteorra.
